Estella

That's a Roman road. Coming out of Cirauquí, the Camino follows this ancient route. Walking a road that has been traveled for two millennia is surreal. That's eighty generations... or more.

This bridge on the road, over a deep, narrow ravine, may also be Roman (though there is apparently debate about its origin.)

Beautiful weather today. 14 km of rolling hills, with a couple of breaks for coffee and snacks. Private room tonight. I'm enjoying spreading out.

Tomorrow to Albergue Oasis Trails in Villamayor de Monjardin.

Here's another church doorway, in Estella. Notice the similar style? I read today that all these doorways might have been created by the same stone cutters.

And, St. James, watching over the pilgrims.

Cirauquí

This bridge - Puente la Reina - was built almost 1000 years ago for pilgrims crossing the Arga River. 110 meters long, and arching high above the river, it is had to imagine what it must have been like for early pilgrims to walk over such a structure. The bridge aligns with a long high street that once offered all the provisions a pilgrim could need:

And, of course, churches:

Further down the road, the Camino leads to a small village on a hill, Cirauquí, where I am tonight:

Tomorrow night: Hostal Christina in Estella.
